Department of Media Technology organises 2nd International Short Film Festival. Srilankan film wins the Best Short Film award.
The Grand finale of Chalchitra 2018, organized by Dept. of Media Technology, MIT, Manipal, took place on 22nd September 2012. The 2nd International Short Film Festival was inaugurated by the Chief Guests (Mr. AMSG Ashokan, President AIFMP and Mr. Hector Kenneth, VP and Executive Editor, Times Now) along with the Guest of Honour (Mr. Navaneetha Krishnan, Lead, Group Strategy, The Manipal Group) and presided by Dr. Somashekar Bhat (Associate Director -Development, MIT, Manipal).
Dr. Amrutharaj H Krishnan, HoD welcomed the gathering and Dr. Nagaraj Kamath, Convener gave the prelude. Mr. Ashokan spoke of present Print industry in India and its growth rate. He also mentioned about the importance of Print and briefed about the activities of AIFMP. He extended all the support from the AIFMP towards scholarship, placements, industry visit and training for the students. Mr. Kenneth gave a very clear picture of the Indian Media industry, its growth, importance of hand in hand relation between Print and Electronic media. Mr. Navaneeth, explained how a simple story telling is becoming a strategy in most of the leading industries to get an edge over competitors. Dr. Somashekar Bhat, in his presidential remarks mentioned about the importance of the electronics engineering both in the area of print and electronic media technology and also complemented the department for having a program of this magnitude. Ms. Asha S Pai proposed the vote of thanks.
After the inaugural session Mr. Kenneth gave the Keynote address on the topic “Changing face of Media and entertainment Landscape”.
During the Valedictory function, Mrs. Vanita G Pai, Manipal and Mr. Aravind Mardikar, AIFMP were chief guests. In her address, Mrs. Vanita Pai mentioned how effective are the short films and also how career progression can happen when short film is hobby or interest. Mr. Arvind appealed students to take active participation in AIFMP forums, which shall benefit them in getting with industry and the corporate world. The guest of Honour Dr. Harish Kumar, Associate Director, Industrial Liaison and Placement, MIT, Manipal informed the students about their role and responsibility in becoming successful engineers. Dr. B H V Pai, Joint Director MIT, in his presidential remarks informed the students and the participants to take the best advantages of this type of programs and also appreciated the efforts of the department and the students in putting a very successful show.
12 movies were screened during the Screening Session. There were 55 registration worldwide under 4 categories – a) 1 minute movie; b) 3 minute movie; c) Documentary; and d) Short Film. Participations were from Sweden, Belgium, Bangladesh, Brazil, Srilanka, Germany and India.
“Black Money” produced by DOFA Films, directed by Mr. Rahula Jayasekara from Colombo, Srilanka won the Best Short Film award. Mandaara Productions, Bangaluru, India won the Best Documentary. Yash Gada, Mumbai, India won the Best 1 Minute Movie.
Prizes were also given for best direction, sound mixing. Editing and cinematography under Documentary and Short Film Categories. Mr. Sandeep Nayak proposed the vote of thanks.
