Ajay Ambastha shares his experience and product offerings and aims growth in the water-based inks segment.
At the recently concluded PrintPack India 2025, Dolphin Inks showcased their latest solutions including Inks and Eco-friendly Coatings. The used the strong platform of PrintPack to interact with inks and coating customers and there were a lot of interest from them regarding barrier and other decorative coatings, says Ajay Ambastha of Dolphin Inks.
“Since we have many products in our basket which the clients are not aware, PrintPack gave us a chance to promote those products. Prominent were barrier coatings and decorative coatings,” says Ajay.
Dolphin Inks displayed the printed samples of its inks for various segments like corrugated, paper cups and plates, food wrappers, Notebooks, Paper bags, Tapes, Labels and other Flexo and Gravure printed samples.
“50+ new clients placed trial orders. Though being a consumable, it is difficult to put a value to the orders,” reveals Ajay.
“Printpack is one exhibition where you meet the entire gamut of printing and packaging industry. All the 5 days the exhibition ground throbs with activity and this year was no different. There were new machines, new consumables,” he further says sharing his PrintPack experience.
Dolphin Inks has participated in most of the previously held PrintPacks. “The 2025 edition was by far the largest and comparable to any international exhibition,” declares Ajay.
Being quite positive from the outcome of PrintPack 2025, Ajay asserts, “The water-based inks market is growing and we expect to grow at the segment growth rate. The Export market is pretty good right now and that helps us a lot.”
He sees a tremendous growth in Digital Print technology. “The Print speeds are still nowhere near Flexo or Gravure and the per-print-costs are still extremely high but for small runs and the customisation, it offers excellent solution,” reasons Ajay. “We are sure this is the future of printing,” he states.
Dolphin Inks was established in 1983. It launched Water-based flexo inks with in-house technology in 1988. “Consciously we have decided to be in eco-friendly segment and do not manufacture any solvent based or oil based inks. When we started, there were no machines to run water-based inks as all flexo machines used to run on oil based or solvent based inks,” remembers Ajay. They started by contacting a few reputed corrugation machine manufacturers, namely the Bhurjee Group, The Shah Group at Mumbai and The Agarwal Family in Kolkata. Quite receptive to the idea, they supported Dolphin Inks during the initial days by modifying their machines. Later Ballarpur Paper imported their W&H Tuber machine for paper Sacks and they wanted to use only the Water-based Inks. That was a game changer. Currently Dolphin Inks manufactures Water-based Inks and various coatings used in segments like Corrugated, Food wrappers, Labels, Paper Bags, Notebooks, Paper Napkins and Towels etc. All inks are eco-friendly, food-safe and completely bio-degradable.
