Devendra Prints & Packaging (DPP) adds another Ricoh Pro to its Digital Lineup

Ricoh at DPP by Monotech – the Sonepat printer has a perfect combination of Offset and Digital.

Devendra Prints & Packaging (DPP) started its journey in print, way back in 1998 in Sonepat with a 10″x25″ Xerox photocopying machine. Today, with another unit in Rai Industrial Area, DPP is the largest operator in both Offset as well as Digital. Through their three different units, DPP catering to the diverse needs of their customers from across the region with a wide range of products. “When we decided to add colour printing and wide format printing machines, we aimed to switch ourselves into Offset and Packaging as well to serve as a one-stop-shop for our customers,” says Rithik Kokhar, the Proprietor. Earlier his mother and father were running the show which is now being run by Rithik who joined after doing his MBA.

DPP, while being a digital printer, foresaw the need for entering into Offset printing, finding a growth opportunity in the Packaging segment. “We started with a second hand four colour Adast Dominant 19″x26″ machine and then graduated to a 20×30 two colour Heidelberg for UV printing especially for adding embellishment capabilities for our packaging products,” shares Rithik. During the Covid lock-downs commercial printing was negligible whereas packaging got a boost for the printers in the country. At the Sonepat plant DPP added yet another sheet fed offset machine from Komori (Enthrone 429) on which they can easily run duplex board from 70gsm to 350gsm for mono carton production for their FMCG and Pharma customers.

“We today have a complete set up for 5 colour printing, UV printing, foiling, embossing, die cutting and pasting in house at our Sonepat plant,” informs Rithik. Additionally the company also has many digital production kits from RICOH, Konica Minolta, Canon as well as Xerox. The units also have HP as well as Epson plotters and the wide format machines used for signage printing are mostly Chinese.

According to Rithik, 70% of their work is of Packaging and is on Offset; whereas when it comes to Commercial jobs, 70% is on Digital. “We are comfortable doing a run of even 500 sheets on Offset than on Digital. It is not only because of the cost advantage but also because when it comes to foiling and embossing, Offset allows us to have more ups on a sheet as compared to the restriction of maximum 13″x19″ size on digital,” reveals Rithik. But when it comes to sampling of a few mono cartons, they use the digital machine to proof the designs.

“If you ask of the turnover of Offset versus Digital, the former wins hands down. At the same time, the profitability is more in Digital for DPP than in Offset,” beamed Rithik. Interestingly the company does almost 70% of the turnover through the Offset medium. For Rithik, the Digital and Offset create a deadly combination, complementing each other perfectly to prove their dominance in varied applications. With a present turnover of DPP at about 10 crores, Rithik expects to increase it by at least a crore in this financial year. He is also planning to install an Automatic Die Cutting machine and Pasting machine along with another Offset printing machine, in the near future in addition to the PixelGlow embellishment machine from Monotech.

When asked why they preferred to buy the RICOH machines (they have two – Ricoh Pro C7200 & a C9200), Rithik simply answered that it is because of the service and support by Monotech in addition to the reliability of the Ricoh machines. Most of the Digital machines they own have been procured from Monotech which is their preferred partner in technology.
