Department of Printing and Media Engineering, MIT, in association with Manipal Technologies, displays the contemporary with the old.
Department of Printing and Media Engineering, MIT, in association with Manipal Technologies, organized an exhibition titled “NOW & THEN” which was a display of contemporary and recent past printing technology as well as centuries old lifestyles.
The exhibition boasted a rich collection of early printing machineries and equipment, imaging technology used in different print verticals, intricate packaging designs, newspaper samples from Udayavani Kannada Daily (1970), The Pioneer (1972) and The Hindu (1993), security printing samples, electronic gadgets, numismatic exhibits, and household items of over 300 years old!
The event was inaugurated by Dr. Nandini Lakshmikantha, Director, School of Communication, Manipal and Mr. Muralidhar Bhat VP, Supply Chain Management, Manipal Technologies, Manipal, in the presence of Dr. Gopalkrishna Prabhu, Pro Vice Chancellor (Technology & Management) Manipal University and Director MIT, Dr. BHV Pai, Joint Director MIT, Dr. Manohar Pai MM, Associate Director (Research and Consultancy), Dr. Narayan Shenoy, Associate Director (Student Welfare), Dr. Ramesha C, Chairman, Diamond Jubilee Celebration, MIT and Mr. Mohan Upadhya, President, Print Park, Manipal and PHF Rotarian Dr. Seshappa Rai.
The idea for conducting this mega exhibition was to create awareness among the public about the developments that has taken place in various print verticals and allied areas of Printing Technology. This event is celebrated as part of the Yearlong Diamond Jubilee celebrations of MIT.
A video show was organized by the department showing how the Hand press (1454) of Johannes Guttenberg (Father of Printing) worked to pull out a print and the working of a most modern web offset printing press of modern times.
About 500 people visited the exhibition including officers of Manipal University, Manipal Technologies, Dr. TMA Pai Polytechnic, Rotary Club members, Asst. Directors of MIT, HoD’s, faculties, school going students, PhD scholars and students of various departments of Manipal University.
