Dept. of Media Technology, MIT strengthens Industry Academia relationship with the one-day visit to Esko, Bangalore.
One of the main objectives of any academic Institute is to maintain a cordial relationship with the Industry. There are a number of ways to achieve this objective; Industry Visit is certainly the most effective.
A delegation of Dept. of Media Technology, MIT was invited to Esko’s Bangalore unit, recently by Mr. Balaji Rengarajan, Senior Quality Engineer on behalf of the Management. The delegation included Dr. Amrutharaj H. Krishnan, Professor & Head, Mr. Ramnath Shenoy, Asst. Professor (Sr. Scale) Department of Media Technology, Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal. The visit was a part of the ongoing initiative of Department to strengthen the Industry Academia relationship. The teachers of the institute spend a day with Esko at Bangalore and got a better idea of the nature and operations of the company.

Esko, the mighty Packaging software and hardware solutions company, is located at the heart of Bangalore – the Silicon Valley of India. Team Esko warmly received the Manipal teachers’ delegation.
Firstly, Mr. Samarth Chandrashekar, Business Development Manager (Software) gave the teachers an insight into Esko’s history and then a demonstration of some interesting new product developments. The products of the company include software for Packaging Management: – Share & Approve, Web Center. Packaging Design: – ArtiosCAD, Studio. Packaging Prepress:- ArtPro, ArtPro+, PackEdge, DeskPack, Dynamic Content, Plato, Imaging Engine, Automation Engine, Color Engine, Equinox. Digital Flexo:- CDI Crystal, XPS Crystal, CDI Crystal XPS , CDI Spark, Digital Flexo Suite, CDI Consumables. Digital Print: – Automation Engine, Color Engine. Digital Finishing:-Kongsberg Cutting Tables, Kongsberg Automate, i-cut Production Console, i-cut Suite, Kongsberg Bits & Blades. Cape Palletization: – Cape Pack, Cape Truck fill. Software Overview: – Esko Software Platform, SaaS Solutions. In addition they have integrated solutions for every print verticals.
Esko gave some software licenses free of cost for the benefit of Manipal’s student community.
The teachers had an interactive session with Mr. Maheshwaran Krishnan, Engineering Manager and Mr. Balaji. The interactive session with the aim – “How to make our students to become competitive in the industry and always keep pace with latest technology of Print Industry”- discussed and analyzed viability of different permutation and combinations. “We believe that increased number of practical sessions is required to complement the theoretical base of our students. It could be through internships, projects, campus trainings as well as off campus trainings during the inter semester and end semester vacations,” said Mr. Ramnath Shenoy.
Then the delegation was escorted to Esko Global Resource Center and Esko South Asia Sales and Service by Mr. Balaji. There they understood and grasped the knowledge about the functioning and processing of various departments. “All the floors and work places are neat and clean. A perfect ambient for creative thinking. We were introduced to various department heads and we interacted with the engineers who works calmly and peacefully. During this highly informative tour we could see our MITians, our Alumni – 13 of them are with Esko,” says Dr. Amrutharaj. “Our joy and happiness had no boundary when we heard words of praise from the management about our Alumni. We felt proud and elated. It took us more than an hour to see how every department complement each other and works. It was evident to us that, this Company is managed by a group of dynamic professionals, working proactively in a peaceful environment. They provide all the necessary resources to ensure excellent service is given to their clients.
A sumptuous lunch was served at Esko’s cafeteria located on the top floor. That is also the meeting place for team Esko, whenever get-together happens.
The team spent valuable hours with team Esko and the institute’s ex-students. They took with them pleasant memories of technology in action and their students having turned into young professionals. All were proud of MIT and were full of appreciation for Esko.
Esko is a subsidiary of Danaher Corporation, headquartered in Ghent, Belgium. The then, prepress titans Barco Graphics and Purup-Eskofot A/S merged to form Esko Graphics in 2001. Later in 2006 the company was renamed as Esko. In the recent past, Esko acquired CAPE Systems, creator of palletization software in 2013. In 2015, Media Beacon a Digital Asset Management vendor and Blue Software LLC who are pioneer in label and artwork management software in 2018. Esko has over 1800 employees worldwide. We were amazed to know, how the company had evolved greatly over the years and has set a benchmark in pre-press solutions.
