The ADOPTECH 2023 conference marks its success with 250 leaders from the industry coming together to discuss the current technology and topics of interest at Pune.
Pune Press Owners Association (PPOA) organized an impressive international conference on the 9th of September 2023. PPOA is among the oldest associations of the printing press owners and has been serving the industry through its various enterprises for over a century. The Pune conference – ADOPTECH 2023 got hosted at Lemon Tree Premier, City Center, Pune, Maharashtra, inviting over 250 leaders from across the printing industry. The conference proved a powerhouse of knowledge exchange and idea flow among the attendees who zealously discussed the subjects of present and future import.
The ADOPTECH 2023 event was organized by All India Federation of Master Printers (AIFMP), the parent body of 77 regional printing associations in India with over 250,000 printers under its wings. The PPOA hosted event was supported by MSME, Government of India.
The ADOPTECH 2023
The ADOPTECH 2023 welcomed a hall full of participants eagerly present on dot at 10am on the morning of 9th September 2023. The ambiance looked cheerful with fresh enthusiastic faces looking forward to a day of knowledge sharing waiting ahead. The day started with the lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries.

Mr.Ravinder Joshi, the incumbent president of AIFMP as well as PPOA, delivered the inaugural speech touching upon the contents of the conference along. He also gave a brief introduction about the activities and scope of both the associations – AIFMP as well as PPOA.
The Chairman of MSME WELFARE at AIFMP, Mr. C.Ravinder Reddy touched upon the activities of MSME for the advantage of the attending printers. He informed about the various schemes that MSME provides to the industry in general and printing industry in particular.
C.R.Janardhana divulges benefits of Printech Park in Harohalli

AIFMP past president and Mentor of MSME WELFARE Committee Mr. C.R.Janardhana gave an invigorating speech about his experience of the MSME Cluster they developed in Bangalore. He talked in detail about the numerous associated benefits that the printers in the cluster have reaped over the years. “The MSME cluster named Printech Park in Harohalli near Bengaluru was an innovative experiment – the first in the country. Built with an investment of over Rs.27 crores, the cluster is located on 57 acres of land boasting state-of-the-art machinery and equipments,” informed Janardhana. The park allotted land at the rate of Rs.170 per square feet to its 92 members who are all small and medium printers from the region. He urged printers participating at the ADOPTECH to explore the possibilities of having clusters in their respective regions.
Brian Kow talks about 74% untapped potential of our printing presses

Brian Kow, Cluster Business Driver – Prinect talked about how to increase productivity of a machine by taking leverage of Prinect software. “Though a printing press is made to print, yet in practice only about 26% of its potential is exploited on an average,” said Brian. It is the rest 74% that one needs to work upon to increase productivity. Prinect is the solution from Heidelberg for the same, he underlined. “The solution to this in fact lies in intelligent machines that organize and process standardized printing processes autonomously. Efficient planning and automatic data availability increase the operating time and productivity; meanwhile, optimal materials ensure reproducible production. Moreover, standardization provides certainty and consistency and then business intelligence delivers sound information all of which is the hallmark of Prinect,” elaborated Brian.

Douglas Mooney, Regional Manager at Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG talked about the advancement in sheet-fed offset presses from the perspective of Heidelberg machines. Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) was a topic Mooney explained in detail. He discussed ways and means by which Heidelberg software can help printers today to increase productivity on their shop floors. Automation is indeed the way ahead and Heidelberg, according to Mooney, is leading the way. He particularly gave reference of UK printing press.
Darren Pickford presents Cartons in one single pass!

Darren Pickford from Edale (UK) gave a presentation on Edale carton making machine, capable of doing it all in one single pass. Edale FL5 is the machine with inline Flatbed Die Cutting unit, Cold Foiling unit, embossing unit, digital printing unit and cutting creasing and stripping units all in one single pass. “The autonomous inking impression and registration (AIIR System) gives unparalleled automation and repeatability of quality and print accuracy,” he said. With capabilities to handle substrates from 12 to 700 microns at speeds up to 300 meters per minute, Edale is the choice for printers of cartons who wish to automate and reduce manpower while increasing productivity to maximum. Edale is represented in India by Printers Supply Company based in Kolkata.
Richard Gill discusses Direct Food Contact packaging and environment safe inks

Richard Gill of Huber (UK) talked about Direct Food Contact (DFC) Inks at Adoptech2023. Pigments, resin system, reducers and additives – listed in European positive lists of autorised substances for food contact – are used to meet stringent regulatory compliance related to DFC. Hubergroup’s plant at Celle (Germany) is a dedicated manufacturing facility for DFC inks. The ink series coated with a water-based coating is suitable for direct food contact and hence suitable for safe printing on the inside of paper as well as board food packaging. Due to its sustainable formulation, products printed with this ink series have great recyclable properties and the printed products can also be disposed of safely without any concern of harming the environment. The MGA Contact inks cost higher than standard inks.
Mahidi, Regional Business Manager at HP Indigo – Asia Pacific & Japan talked about the future ready printing solutions from HP at Adoptech2023.

The ADOPTECH 2023 event came to positive and productive close with an inquisitive doubts & queries session towards the end. It was quite an interesting session reflecting the keenness and fervor of the conference on a whole. All the attending printers were very enthusiastic with the outcome of the event and were upbeat about the academic topics taken up by the experts at the conference.
