Singapore’s central bank has apologized for misspelling the name of the first president on the packaging of a special currency issue. The special currency issue marks the country’s 50th year of independence.
The name of the late president Yusof Ishak, misspelt as “Yusok Ishak” on the cover folder containing the Sg$50 and Sg$10 commemorative notes came in as a major disappointment for the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS).
“This should never have happened, is not acceptable, and I take full responsibility,” MAS managing director Ravi Menon said in a statement.
“I apologize on behalf of my colleagues who worked hard to prepare the notes and folders, but are deeply disappointed that we made this most unfortunate mistake. We will put this right.”
The error has also appeared in the enclosed booklet. The bills, however, are free of the mistake. In a balancing move, the MAS has printed corrective sticker to be sent to people who have bought the packages with the error. MAS will also reprint new folders for the SG50 commemorative notes set to correct the typo which misspelt the name of president Yusof Ishak.
