Chennai based Digital print solutions provider finds a single solution to its major challenges.
Speed Xerox started providing complete printing solutions some 20 years ago. Pioneering in Porur area in the year 1996, they still hold the monopoly in their range of solutions in the region. Speed Xerox is headed by Mr. V Vaidhyanathan, who is ably assisted by his wife, V Malathy. Two designers and operators look after key activities – which are primarily related to Printing and Finishing.
Catering to commercial walk-ins and press jobs, especially the student walk-in jobs, the Chennai’s Porur-based Printing establishment also has a few clients from the publishing market segment.
Recently, Speed Xerox invested in the highly versatile Versant 180 from Xerox. Due to increased demand for complex Digital print projects and variable data printing jobs, their decision went in favour of Versant 180. “Since, speciality media are the new trends in the market,” says Vaidhyanathan, “we invested in this machine considering its capability to print on a wide range of media types.”
We primarily considered the Xerox Versant 180 press because of it being a 10 bit machine and the technology behind it. We were also attracted by the job simplifying capabilities of the SIQA and paper profiling. One of the main reasons to invest in the new Xerox Versant 180 press was the print quality and the SIQA tool concept which facilitates proper registration and calibration. Also the good FSMA combined with the presales and post-sales support we receive from Xerox, further helped us in our decision. Additionally, we really liked the concept of offsite support, which is a new concept in the Printing machine platform,” shares Vaidhyanathan.
He believes his Versant 180 will boost their volume in terms of speed and quality. After installing the Xerox Versant 180, they are already able to serve corporate profiles and help other branding companies with their jobs. “Moreover, it simplifies the jobs by automating registration and colour management with SIQA tool,” he reiterates.
Comparing the Versant’s capabilities with their earlier working, Vaidhyanathan recalls that their key challenge area was the colour management. However, now with the newly installed press, they have eased the process by fixing the proper fusing temperature.
“We are very satisfied with our new mid production press as it provides us with a 10 bit platform and various utility applications such as Hot Folders And Virtual Folders, Fiery Go etc. which, in turn, helps us in easing our printing work,” says Vaidhyanathan.
With the help of the consultation provided by Xerox, they are planning a few new marketing activities and Vaidhyanathan, with respect to ROI, expects a maximum of 10,000 prints from his existing 20,000 volume.
With a plan to work towards ensuring that they are updated with the latest technology, Speed Xerox also intends to expand and open new branches.
Vaidhyanathan is quite positive about the future of Indian Digital printing industry and is very enthusiastic about their Xerox Versant 180 to tap the growth areas of the future. “Our new Xerox Versant 180 will help us tap into all the market; that’s the reason for purchasing the machine,” he says.
Speed Xerox has two printing facilities equipped with state-of-the-art equipment – including 3 monochrome machines, one colour production, numerous finishing and cutting equipment. They have a total staff of 10. “We have a complete colour printing unit which is supported by monochrome machines. With complete finishing equipment, we are able to satisfy the needs of our customers, which certainly is our USP,” says Vaidhyanathan.
Additionally, they have a good designing unit which, according to Vaidhyanathan, is the backbone of any printing organization. They have a 1500 sq.ft. premises housing their recent rewarding procurement – the Xerox Versant 180. They have four machine operators who do periodical updates – Xerox takes special care to conduct trainings and their analysts help Speed Xerox stay updated in the machine technology.
For Vaidhyanathan, the cost of printing, periodical updates and technological advancements have been the major challenges of his business. But, now with the recent Xerox Versant 180 he seems to be content – having found a single solution to his major challenges.
